Celebrity Cruises is an American run operator which has Greek origins and provides a high quality cruising experience on modern spacious ships. Now owned by Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity offers cruising in elegant and imaginative surroundings with good cuisine and service.
The spacious ships offer lots of outdoor deck space and above average cabin sizes. Whereas on the expedition vessels the accommodation is a little more basic. Four new 118,000 tonne Solstice class ships are on order for delivery from 2008 to 2011
Celebrity markets itself as a premium cruise line with a taste of luxury. This sums up the standard and service aboard well.
Celebrity still keeps up some of the traditons of crusing that other lines have done away with and this adds to the feeling of luxury. For example being escorted to your cabin by a steward, having a waiter carry your tray to your table at the buffets and having water sprays on the pool deck.
Celebrity also offers added benefits if you book a suite or conciege class cabin for example priority embarkation and disembarkation, choice of pillows, larger beach towels and bathroom towels to name but a few.
Even if you do not book a higher grade cabin you can expect excellent food and a higher staff to passenger ratio which makes a noticeable difference in the housekeeping and food and beverage departments. Some other nice touches are during hot days if you are out sunbathing on deck you will be brought cold towels, sorbet and iced water or tea.
Celebrity is ideally suited to adult couples and families with older children and singles who like to socialise in a large ship setting.
The Celebrity ships are: Celebrity Century (1995), Constellation (2002), Galaxy (1996), Infinity (2001), Mercury (1997), Millenium (2000), Summit (2001), Xpedition (2001).
An additional string to Celebritys bow is Azamara Cruises which they launched in 2007. This part of Celebrity offers mid-size ships with a focus on destinations visited, mainly lesser visited places with a comprehensive shore excursion programme. The ships are Azamara Journey (2000) and Quest (2000).
